Outcry OutLoud - A Fateful Finale

Barber Overture to The School for Scandal
Nico Muhly Order of Operations
Walton Viola Concerto (Elliott Perks viola)
Tchaikovsky Symphony No 4

at Smith Square Hall, London SW1P 3HA (formerly St John’s Smith Square)

A Fateful Finale brings together theatrical brilliance, contemporary flair and powerful emotional depth. The concert opens with Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, an effervescent curtain-raiser inspired by Sheridan’s famous play. Nico Muhly’s Order of Operations follows with its driving rhythms and layered harmonies that showcase the energy and invention of today’s composers.

Next comes Walton’s Viola Concerto, a work of deep lyrcicism, elegance and introspection. By featuring Outcry’s principal violist, Eliott Perks, as soloist in this haunting and expressive piece, we are continuing an Outcry tradition of spotlighting outstanding musicians from within the orchestra.

To close, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4 leads the listener on a passionate journey though fate, anguish and triumph. Composed during a time of personal turmoil, the symphony stands as one of the conmposer’s most emotionally charged and cathartic works.
